Swift Current residents will once again have the opportunity to indulge in carnival games, live music, and snacks when the Innovation Credit Union’s Picnic in the Park returns to the city this summer.

The event, which has become a staple of the community, will occupy Riverside Park once again after a three-year hiatus.

Shawna Jardine, Community Representative for the Innovation Credit Union, elaborated on the upcoming event.

“2023 will mark the 42nd anniversary of the Credit Union hosting this event for people in this area,” she elaborated. “In the past, we have seen upwards of 5,000 community members attend, so it's a large event. It's intended to attract multi-generational folks in a family-friendly setting and it's a way of saying thank you to current and future members.”

Jardine added that although Innovation came up with new ways to stay involved with the community during the pandemic, they are thrilled to be bringing Picnic in the Park back.

“We heard loud and clear that this is something people wanted to have come back. During the time that we did not run Picnic in the Park because of COVID, we did sort of pivot to another family-friendly free drive-in movie event that went quite well, so we didn't entirely stop doing anything for the community.

“We certainly tried our best to support the community in any way we could, but now that we've seen the pandemic in the rearview mirror, we're really happy to bring this back to the community, have all those people come out, and enjoy a really fun day.”

The event will take place on June 4, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Riverside Park.

There is no cost for admission or entertainment.

“We're proud to be the host of this event,” Jardine added. “We're very excited to bring it back for sure and it sort of fits with what Innovation stands for. We are known to be very good supporters of the communities that we serve, and we understand the importance of an affordable day of fun for the whole family.

“This is just one way of showing that we care about the communities that we serve, we care about traditions and what's important to the people.”
