The Moose Jaw Wildlife Federation celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Classrooms on Ice Program.
The program teaches kids about healthy ecosystems, conservation, and biology. It also gives them a chance to get outdoors!
Jim Austin, chair of Classrooms on Ice, loves being able to show the kids what winter has to offer.
"We wanted to educate our youth on the importance of our environment and the wildlife within it," Austin remarked. "We also wanted to get them outside and let them experience the beauty of winter."
Moose Jaw Wildlife instructors lead the kids through fun outdoor activities, such as ice fishing.
"In the fish physiology component, we do a biopsy of a fish," "We show them their internal organs, and how they live in the water column."
The instructors also take kids through a water sampling activity. The kids get to learn about water oxygen levels and the concepts of water quality.
