Residents are invited to come down to the Innovationplex this Saturday to cheer on the local junior and senior roller derby teams in their home season opener.
Redneck Betties member Ella Toles provides details on the event.
"Starting off the day at 4:30pm our juniors the Ra Ra Riots will be playing against Saskatoon's juniors. And then after that our senior team the Redneck Betties will be playing against Scarlett Fever at 7:00pm and they are Brandon's team."
Toles adds that the teams usually have four games per season with their next ones taking place on May 27th, June 24th and another game in September.
In addition, she provides some background on the game for those unfamiliar with the sport.
"Basically, with roller derby we will have four blockers and one jammer per team. We're all on roller skates and the blockers will be trying to prevent the opposing team's jammer from getting past them because that's how we score points in the game."
Toles adds they are also looking for new members for both the junior and senior team and no amount of experience is necessary to join. For those interested in the senior team there is also a learn to skate program offered for those new to the wheels or needing a refresher course.
Those interested can reach out through the Redneck Betties Facebook page.
