The RCMP has revealed more information regarding Cst. Harvinder 'Harvey' Singh Dhami's regimental funeral.
The 32-year-old officer was killed in a collision earlier this month while responding to a noise complaint call in Strathcona County.
The funeral will take place on Thursday (Apr. 20) at Millenium Place in Sherwood Park.
In a press conference, Superintendent Dale Kendall remembered Dhami's contributions to the RCMP's emergency medical response team (EMRT).
"Harvey was committed to physical, medical, and tactical training to become part of the elite emergency medical response team," said Kendall. "This is a challenging team to qualify for as it involves providing help in known high-risk situations."
"He stepped up for EMRT and was selected out of many applicants, which is yet another indication of his drive, his character, and his desire to help others."
Though gone, Kendall added that Dhami's impact on the RCMP will be long-lasting.
"It is Constable Dhami's selfless spirit that will continue to inspire the work of his colleagues and his fellow members," said Kendall. "We are forever grateful for his service to this organization and the communities he dedicated his life and career to."
Thursday will begin with a funeral procession at 10 a.m. starting at the Bethel Lutheran Church which will make its way to Millenium Place for the funeral service starting at 11:30 a.m.
The funeral service will not be open to the public, but mourners are invited to line the funeral procession to pay their respects.
There will also be a live feed of both the procession and the service on the Alberta RCMP Youtube channel.
The RCMP added that Dhami was known to be a big supporter of Meals on Wheels and that his family has asked the public to support their local Meals on Wheels in lieu of any flowers or personal donations.
