The Swift Current Fire Department was dispatched to a residential basement fire at 12:10 a.m. on April 16.

Eight personnel and three vehicles responded to the fire located on the 400 block of 2nd Avenue Southeast.

Firefighters arrived to a smoke-filled house, from which the residents had quickly and safely evacuated.

Crews immediately entered the building and contained the damage to the mechanical room.

Swift Current Fire Department Fire Chief, Ryan Hunter, said he is pleased with the response from his team.

“We're very happy with the response,” he stated. “The home is able to be occupied, there was limited damage and there were no injuries at all on the scene.”

He added that while the home is liveable, the Fire Department is currently going through checks with electrical and gas inspectors to ensure all avenues are safe for the family to enter and reside in their home.

The incident is still under investigation.
