The Fort Saskatchewan Sonic volleyball club had four teams competing at Alberta Volleyball provincials last weekend.

It was quite a successful weekend, as two of the four teams came away with medals.

The U15 boys, the only all-boy team within the club, had a fantastic result capturing the division three championship. Eli Vriend and Taylor Percy also got recognition as tournament all-stars.

For the girls, the most successful team was the U15 blue girls' team as they came away with a silver medal in division five.

As for the other two teams, The U15 red girls' team finished first in their pool during the division six tournament, but a tough crossover left them without a medal.

Lastly, the U16 girls competed for the division three crown but came up empty-handed.

Resa Whelen-Vetsch, the director of the club, says it was a great showing for only the club's second year in existence.

"I couldn't be more proud of them," said Whelen-Vetsch.

This isn't the end of the season for these teams as they will all be competing at nationals in mid-May.

Other teams in the club are prepping for provincial tournaments as well, with the U17 teams playing this weekend at the Saville Centre in Edmonton.
