Linda Joyce Kitchen (nee Kazuk)

(1948 ~ 2023)

It was on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023 at 10:30 am that Linda Joyce Kitchen became absent from her body to be present with the Lord.

Linda will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. She touched the lives of so many people across multiple generations. During her time with us, she embodied the perfect definition of a Ukrainian woman.  Linda was strong and very independent, but quite traditional and demanded respect. She was resilient and dedicated to her family.  Her powerful drive to succeed showed through the best of everything that she did - from raising kids, cooking and minding the house to being a career woman, taking care of her husband, Jim, and supporting her multitude of friendships.

Linda will be greatly missed by her husband of 54 years, Jim and her two sons; Christopher and Bryan, her grandchildren; Zachary and Nathan (mother, Shasta), Naomi (mother, Rhonda) and Nicholas (mother, Shannon) and her current fur babies; Bernie, Lucas and Paddy as well as her brother Kenny, sister-in-law Marilyn (Dayton), brother-in-law Omer (Brenda), and a plethora of nephews and nieces.

Linda Joyce Kitchen was the daughter of immigrants Samuel and Mary Kazuk and was born on May 20th, 1948 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. As the youngest of her siblings, Linda had to ensure her voice was heard in a household of many. She was fearless and independent and not afraid to make her opinions well known. She was strong willed and stubborn, but those traits defined Linda. They were a part of who she was, and her strength undoubtedly helped her deal with life’s challenges including a battle with breast cancer.

During her time with us, Linda made a point to always help anyone with whatever she could, never second-guessing her decision. This included the rescued dogs that she so loved and the organizations that worked with them. Anyone who knows Linda, knows that her family meant everything to her and in her eyes, each of you reading this was a member of her family…but you might have been a rescue.

A private internment will be held, with a Celebration of Life to be planned for early summer.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to have donations made in Linda’s name to Portage Animal Welfare Shelter, 121 – 12th St. NE, Portage la Prairie, MB   R1N 4A2 or Central Plains Cancer Care Service, 318 Sask. Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB   R1N 0K8.

At this time, we want to thank the amazing staff in the St. Boniface Hospital Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for being with Linda on her final journey.

Messages of condolences can be made online at www.omegafuneralhome.com.

Omega Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements
