The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 59 is celebrating the Month of the Military Child.

Military families are invited to participate in a variety of fun activities, such as face painting, finger painting, activity booths, a candy guess jar, and a selfie picture station. Hotdogs and soft drinks will also be supplied to guests at the event.

Roy LaBuick, past President of the legion branch, thinks this is a wonderful way to acknowledge the strength of military families in Moose Jaw.

"We often always think of our military members that are serving overseas and how far away they are from home during different times of the year," LaBuick commented. "Sometimes we forget about the loved ones they leave at home, specifically the children."

LaBuick mentioned how hard it is for military families to see their loved ones leave for months or even years at a time. They often grieve the time lost with their loved ones, as it is time they may never be able to make up.

"Doing this in the month of April is a very important thing. It is something else that we should remember," LaBuick remarked. "In November, we wear our poppies and remember our veterans. But sometimes, we have to think of the bigger picture, such as who they are leaving at home and leaving behind while they are overseas."

The event takes place this Thursday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the legion lounge.
