A historical drama, familiar to many, is being performed on a local stage this coming weekend.

The Hiding Place is the story of Corrie ten Boom's life during World War II. It will be performed on the Crystal Springs Hutterite Colony school stage by the youth of the colony. If you are unfamiliar with it, Edward Kleinsasser, director of the production, gives us a short description.

“It’s about a woman who is to be admired for what she went through and how she stood up for the truth and what is right as a Christian, at the time of Hitler when the Jews were persecuted. The story takes place in the Netherlands, where their family was helping the Jews and hiding them.”

“She was arrested and brought to a concentration camp. The story tells of all that she went through and in the end, she was released even though the people around her passed on, you know, died because of the hardship they went through.”

Kleinsasser continues and tells us what he finds most touching about the story. “The part about forgiveness, you know, that she was able to forgive those people that were so wicked and did what they were doing, you know, that's the amazing part. And for us, that's even a good example and it's so in line with the teachings of Jesus.”

Kleinsasser says they are asking for a $20 donation at the door, with all proceeds from ticket sales going to various colony projects, he tells us about some of them.

“We have some members of the colony going to Nigeria. We have some going in Romania and some in Liberia. At this point, we are focusing more of the funds towards Romania, because we’d like to help out with so many people traveling there from Ukraine. These funds will help us buy food from people that we know in Ukraine and bring them to the children and families.”

He continues, “Also, some of our young people are in Romania currently, they are constructing a building where kids and young people can live, rather than on the streets, and away from child traffickers.  So, that's a good cause which we want to focus on too.”

“The Hiding Place” takes place at the Crystal Springs Colony school on April 28, 29, and 30th as well as May 2 and 3rd evenings starting at 7pm.
