The Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw Campus Carpentry students designed and assembled lockers for the Tactical Response Team at Moose Jaw Police Service.
The Tactical Response Team is a new unit in the Moose Jaw Police Service. They had been assigned rooms and gear, but they still needed lockers to store their supplies in.
Constable Reggie Pawliw from Moose Jaw City Police was the one who thought of the idea initially.
"I remember when I was in high school, I built myself a large dresser and bedside table," Pawliw recalled. "I was talking to my father about this. He and I came to the idea to talk to Saskatchewan Polytechnic and see if the students there could put together some lockers for the Tactical Response Team."
From there, Pawliw contacted the Head of the Carpentry Department at Saskatchewan Polytechnic Moose Jaw Campus and gave him an overview of what the project would look like. After some discussion with the superintendents, Saskatchewan Polytechnic gave the go-ahead to begin the project.
"[The Head of the Carpentry Department] told me this was a larger project than they would normally do," Pawliw mentioned. "But they were willing to take on the challenges for the police station!"
The Moose Jaw Police provided all the materials and accessories for the students. From there, the students designed and assembled the lockers by hand.
"It was a big team effort, and they made everything happen," Pawliw remarked. "We just had the idea, but they did all the hard work. They did all the assembly, design, and everything like that, so it was awesome!"
Pawliw says the lockers will be put to good use. Police gear and other supplies will be stored in these lockers. Many briefings and plans will be discussed by the team in the locker rooms as well.
