At this year's Family First Radiothon, the Moose Jaw Health Foundation has a goal of raising $150,000, with all proceeds going to the F.H. Wigmore Hospital.
James Murdock, past Chair of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, believes it is important to support the frontline workers that help us every day.
"Moose Jaw is blessed to have top-qualified physicians and nurses with the strong knowledge they have to aid us in our health needs," Murdock commented. "By having state-of-the-art equipment, that allows the hospital, city, and province to continue to bring these professionals into our city to give us the best healthcare possible."
Murdock also mentioned that attracting and retaining these healthcare professionals is more important than ever right now. The COVID-19 pandemic shone a light on the importance of our healthcare professionals and how difficult it is to replace people like that.
"With state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, that will help in attracting healthcare professionals to make Moose Jaw their home," Murdock remarked. "Anything we can do to attract [healthcare professionals] definitely benefits everyone, and it starts with raising the dollars through the radiothon and other events that allow us to make those purchases for the community and surrounding rural areas."
A critical care bed is at the top of the list of equipment that the hospital needs. Along with that, the hospital also needs ultrasound probes, glidescopes, new patient beds, and a quick-thaw plasma system.
"[It starts with] the simple donation of a toonie, five dollar bill, or twenty dollar bill. It's amazing how quickly that adds up," Murdock mentioned. "Those are the meaningful donations because you know that it is truly coming from the heart of that donor. Those small donations are very powerful, and that is what makes Moose Jaw unique."
If you are interested in donating, you can visit the Moose Jaw Health Foundation's website at mjhf.org, or stop at the mall on May 4th and 5th to give a donation in person.
