Motorists dodging the significant potholes on Altona's Main Street might be wondering when the road will be redone, as promised by the Manitoba Government last fall.
Public Works manager, Clint Derksen, says a pre-construction meeting with contractor, Bituminex, is set for this week Thursday. There, he expects a timeline for the project to be firmed up.
The original plan was to replace the west side curbing from Centre Ave to 6th Ave. and the end of April, before crews began the 60mm mill and fill work on the driving surface and parking lanes at the end of May when the asphalt plant got up and running for the season. However, Mother Nature had other ideas and the curb work has yet to get started.
Despite this delay, Derksen is confident the curbs will still get done before the end of May in order to meet the original resurfacing timeline.
Meantime, the Town's Public Works crews continue to wait for conditions to dry up before work can resume on the Southwest Drainage project.
As well, the industrial park expansion is on a planned pause as Fast Brothers crews wait for the ground to dry up. However, Derksen says things are still happening behind-the-scenes.
"The lift stations are being built in B.C., and pumps are on their way. It's not at a total stand still," he said.
