The Morinville splash park will be closed for most of the summer as work is done to the nearby Ray Macdonald Sports Grounds.

The town recently received a Canada Community Revitalization Grant of $750,000, which they are using for enhancements at the sports grounds on 104 Street.

Enhancements coming to the park include an outdoor washroom, a picnic area, and even an enhanced walkway.

"With all that work right next to the splash park, we had to close it down to improve the construction efficiency and also for the safety of the users," said Jordan Betteridge, manager of infrastructure in Morinville.

Construction is expected to be completed in the summer with the hopes that the splash park will be able to open before the season ends.

"We're going to do everything we can to reopen the splash park once it's safe to do so, even if it means turning it on in July."

The perimeter of the construction area will be fenced off until construction is complete.
