Strathcona County RCMP are on the scene at Highway 14 and Range Road 231 for a massive multi-vehicle collision.

On Friday (May 12) at around 6 a.m., police were sent to the collision between Highway 21 and Range Road 231.

Officers found 34 vehicles involved in the collision, including 4 semi-trucks.

In total 12 people were taken to hospital, two with life-threatening conditions. One person was airlifted by STARS air ambulance. The other drivers and occupants were taken to Millennium Place by bus.

The eastbound lane on Highway 14 is now open. 10 vehicles involved are still on the scene and are currently being removed.

The cause of the collision is believed to be low visibility due to wildfire smoke and fog.
