VANTHUYNE
February 26, 1972 – May 22, 2023
Alan Rene Vanthuyne, aged 51 years, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on Monday, May 22, 2023.
Alan was born in Regina, on February 26, 1972, to Dennis and Edith Vanthuyne of Simpson, Saskatchewan. Alan was the oldest of three children and was the perfect big brother in every aspect to his brother, Darin, and sister, Dana, who were one and six years younger. Alan grew up in Simpson and had all the adventures that a small-town boy could have. Simpson was a hockey town and Alan played every age level in Simpson including Senior hockey. The highlight of his hockey days was winning the Midget Provincial Championships in 1990 with a combined team from Simpson, Imperial, Liberty, and Holdfast. Alan was instrumental in this win, scoring a hat trick in the first game of the final series. He was also a talented ball player, mostly whipping the ball across the diamond from third base. He played ball in Watrous, Liberty, Nokomis, and Lockwood.
Alan graduated from Simpson High School in 1990 and attend SIAST in Moose Jaw, graduating with a Business Administration diploma. He then completed a Business degree at the University of Regina in 1996. Alan started his career in the financial industry working for the Bank of Montreal, then MemberCare and finished it as an online broker with Toronto Dominion Securities
In 1999 Alan met Tanya Herman from Colonsay, Saskatchewan. Their love deepened quickly and in 2000 they were married. Their son Chayce was born in 2000 and was followed by his sister Brin in 2005. Alan’s love for family was clear in the upbringing that he and Tanya provided for their kids. Whether it was coaching and watching ball games or cheering at dance competitions, they were a constant presence. Alan was so proud of his children and encouraged them to be whatever they wanted and to always strive for happiness. As a family, they enjoyed many family vacations together and always gathered great memories on each trip.
In February 2001, Alan was sworn in as a Constable with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Regimental #48312) and he and Tanya moved their family to his first posting of Smeaton, Saskatchewan. He continued his law enforcement career in Regina, Moose Jaw, Lake Louise (Alberta), then back to Regina. With his work ethic and a diverse skill set to the RCMP, he worked both uniform and plainclothes, and rose quickly to the rank of Sergeant and Detachment Commander. In 2013 Alan was presented with the St. John Ambulance Life-saving Award for saving the life of a person in distress while he was on duty. In November 2016, Alan retired from the RCMP to work as a special investigator with SGI, where again he excelled at his job and was a valuable member of the SIU team.
Alan had many passions and one included staying fit through both weightlifting and running which was a benefit as he also really loved Tanya’s cooking. Alan and Tanya entered some races and always crossed the finish line together. They also became regular workout buddies in the home gym. Their shared passion for fitness gave them another connection and allowed them to spend more time together. They recently acquired more dogs and while Alan was not a fan of bringing 4 dogs into the home, he grew to love them very much and enjoyed all the antics and joy they brought him. Alan also loved to spend time at the family cabin at Greenwater, hunting and fishing with friends and family.
Alan and Tanya started spending more time in the BC mountains in the last few years, in anticipation of retirement. They often spent time hiking, kayaking, skiing or just walking the dogs and talking about what their next chapter would look like. Alan also loved spending time in Las Vegas with his brother, Darin and travelling with his kids. These trips were always a highlight of Alan’s, and he truly enjoyed them.
Alan’s love of family was evident in everything he did. He listened far more than he talked and invested his time and interest in every person he encountered. Alan was also very funny and had an ability to make every person he talked to feel good about themselves. Any time spent with Alan was good for the soul.
Alan lost his battle with cancer, but he never let it beat him. After his diagnosis and during his battle, he was always the most upbeat and positive person in the room. His two most common expressions were “It’s all good” and “don’t worry about me”.
Alan is survived by: his wife, Tanya, his children Chayce and Brin; his parents, Dennis and Edith; his siblings Darin (Jeanette) Vanthuyne, and Dana (Wayne) Stephens; his nieces and nephews Dallas, Dylan, Jaylin, Savanna, and Cody; his father and mother in law Merv and Barb Herman; brother in law Tyler (Ruby) Herman and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandparents Harry and Helen Vanthuyne (McDade) and Peter and Anna Donison (Rodger).
A Come and Go Celebration of Alan’s Life will be held on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Regina Royal Golf Club, 5401 11th Ave W, Regina, SK, but everyone who knew Alan is encouraged to celebrate his life in their own way.
