More details are emerging regarding the increased police presence in the west-central part of the city yesterday.

In relation to an ongoing illegal firearms possession investigation, officers from the Swift Current Municipal General Investigation Section (GIS), Saskatchewan RCMP Critical Incident Program, Swift Current RCMP Traffic Services Unit, Swift Current Police Dog Services, and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Swift Current Saskatchewan Trafficking Response Team (STRT), executed a search warrant located at a residence on the 200 block of 7th Avenue Northwest.

Police located an adult male outside the residence upon arriving on the scene and arrested him without incident.

Officers on the scene verbally called out that any additional occupants of the residence were required to exit the building. A female adult complied immediately and was taken into custody without incident. She was released with no charges.

Officers remained on the scene for an extended period of time due to the nature of the investigation.

For approximately an hour and a half, officers took steps to confirm that the residence was clear of any other remaining occupants or unforeseen threats that may impact the safety of the officers or community members.

These steps included using verbal de-escalation skills with potential occupants inside the residence and deploying several non-lethal tools such as horns, sirens and flashbangs.

No shots were fired at any point during the investigation and there were no injuries to any parties involved.

As a result of the executed warrant, Theoren Delmage, from Swift Current is facing one charge of possession of a prohibited weapon, one charge of possession of ammunition while prohibited, and one charge of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The 29-year-old is scheduled to make his first appearance in court in Swift Current tomorrow.

The investigation is still ongoing.
