Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for much of the area, and it should be around all weekend.
"We have the perfect conditions for some warm temperatures," said Samantha Mauti, a meteorologist with Environment Canada. "Generally, it's been pretty dry, and we have a ridge of high pressure [which will] cause warm and clear conditions through the weekend for the Fort Saskatchewan area."
Heat warnings are usually issued when areas experience daytime highs around 29 C and overnight lows over 14 C that last more than two days.
In Fort Saskatchewan, those daytime highs could potentially get even hotter.
"For the next couple of days, we are looking at the high 20s, possibly low 30s, in through the weekend into next week as well as overnight lows in the mid-teens," said Mauti. "Saturday is the warmest day at 30 C, that's when it looks like the heat will be more intense."
Like clockwork, this heatwave has been greeted with another wave of wildfire smoke. Though it's not anticipated to be as intense as in previous weeks.
"If the smoke is quite thick that can affect the amount of solar radiation that reaches the surface," said Mauti. "For this area, we are seeing some wildfire smoke coming into the Edmonton/Fort Saskatchewan area...it doesn't look like it's going to be quite as intense."
Environment Canada is asking people to be cautious, drink plenty of water, and limit their outside activity to cooler times of the day.
"Try to take breaks from the heat," said Mauti. "Be sure not to leave pets or children inside vehicles for long periods of time."
The heat could also last a bit into next week as well.
"It looks like temperatures will be above normal," said Mauti. "Still possibly high 20s, whether or not that will meet [heat warning] criteria I am not sure."
"Into the middle of next week, it looks like there is a cooler trend around Wednesday."
