Two local graduates have the distinction of being honoured with this year’s Kent Lessmeister Memorial Scholarships. This year’s deserving recipients are Akeisha King from Three Lakes School in Middle Lake and Makayla Hauser from Lake Lenore School. The winners were announced by the Horizon District Athletic Association who administers the awards.

Akeisha plans to take her first year of the U of S Kinesiology program through St. Peters College in Muenster, hoping to eventually transfer into the College of Education.

Makayla also plans on attending St. Peter's College in Muenster and then transferring to the University of Saskatchewan to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.

The Kent Lessmeister Memorial Scholarship was created by the HCAA in memory of former HCAA Executive member Kent Lessmeister, and is awarded annually to two graduating students from schools within the HCAA who will be furthering their education in Saskatchewan in a sports-related field.

The announcement release from the HCAA states that both King and Hauser exemplify what Kent held dearly – staying active in school sports, strong leadership skills, sportsmanship, and role modeling within the school and the community.
