Another busy weekend for local ball teams saw plenty of action at home and on the road.
The East Central 15U AAA Dodgers started off at home on Saturday with a pair of wins over the South East A's. In game one, the A's whittled down a 6-run lead, but the Dodgers held on for a 7-5 win. Tyson Hardy and Reese Copeland teamed up on the mound for the win, while Blake Morelli led the way at the plate going 3 for 3.
In game 2, the Dodgers got a five-run lead off the hop and once again had to fend off a late charge by the A's for an 8-6 victory. Dayne Schommer started on the mound for the Dodgers, with Brady Solar and Jarret Rude coming in to close out.
The tables turned for the Dodgers on Sunday as they fell behind 5 runs to the Moose Jaw Canucks and rallied to within one point in the game one 6-5 loss. Iin game 2, it came down to the final play, a single to right field by the Canuck, to decide the Dodgers’ fate as they dropped the decision 9-8.
The Dodgers are back in action on Sunday in Regina against the White Sox.
Meanwhile in 18U AAA play, the East Central Red Sox were back facing the Saskatoon Diamondback after a Tuesday night victory. The Sox split the double-header, taking the first game 13-11. The Sox built up a 5 run lead by the 5th and held off a late Saskatoon surge for the win. Marek Yeager took the mound for the first five innings, with Ryder Knittig and Joel Bauml pitching relief.
In game two, the teams were knotted up at 5 a piece in the seventh, but the Diamondbacks pulled ahead on a double in the inning, and they sealed the deal on a two-run single to cap a 9-5 win.
The Red Sox will head to Saskatoon on Thursday for a run at the Cubs.
It was a rocky weekend for the Muenster Red Sox as they dropped a Saturday pair against the Moose Jaw Canucks. The team ended on a high noted as they captured the second game in their double-header against the Lumsden Cubs in an 11-10 win. Levi Richels hit a triple scoring the walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh.
The Muenster Red Sox take the field on Wednesday against the Saskatoon Blue Jays.
To wrap up the weekend action, the Marysburg Royals outpaced the Saskatoon Hoppers with a pair of wins.
