Cardston- Siksika MLA Joseph Schow has been given a caucus post, Schow is now the Minister of Tourism and Sport.

Schow says that Alberta has a great story and he is looking forward to helping share our story.

"I haven't received a mandate letter from the premier yet, but once I get that I will have a better understanding of an overall direction as for Tourism and Sport is concerned, as a former athlete myself, I'm really excited to work with athletes around the province and also to get out and sell the province to the rest of the country."

As for Schow's priorities as MLA for Cardston-Siksika, they haven't changed much since he was elected in 2019.

"I have always said that rural Alberta punches above its weight and I love this part of the province. I ran so that rural Alberta can have a strong voice and a legislature for all the issues that matter most to us down here and I am excited to keep doing that for another four years."

Schow explains that with him being MLA of Cardston-Siksika and with being Minister of Tourism and Sport that it definitely will be a balancing act.

"I have great family support, great staff support and an amazing constituency. So, it is going to take some time and making sure I'm getting out in my local areas and listening to what my bosses have to say because I work for the people. Making sure that their voices are heard both at the cabinet table, to my colleagues and the legislature, and both on the UCP side and the NDP side."

As the Minister of Tourism and Sport, Schow recognizes that he needs to do what is best for the province of Alberta.

"For the last four years, even not being a member of cabinet, it has been a challenge because, but it also has been a balancing act and I feel that I will continue to do that for another four years and keep representing the good people of Cardston-Siksika who gave me a strong mandate to go back and represent them for another four years."

In the last four years as Schow has learned a lot and says that it is an honour and great privilege to know the amazing constituency of Cardston-Siksika.

"I have learned about what matters most to people in the area and there are definitely many diverse interests in the area but strong representation as well."

What motivated Schow to run for another four years is quite simple, Schow is a fifth-generation Albertan, and his dad was born and raised right in Cardston.

"I believe that the foundation that my grandparents and their parents laid needs to be respected and they came to this part of the province for an opportunity because it clearly wasn't the weather.   To have rural Alberta have strong representation to carry on that legacy and to respect that legacy it's been a great honour for the first four years and looking forward to another four years because I just love this part of the province, I love the whole province. We choose to live here in the south because it's just a wonderful place to be."

Schow is honored to be the Minister of Tourism and Sport, he has been a cabinet member before as the House Leader and he will continue to carry on that role as well going into the future.

"It means a lot to me because my job is to promote Alberta and tell the amazing story that we have here and that is a big undertaking, but I feel up to the task and am looking forward to it as well."
