A local business which serves as an integral part of the community is reaching out to those they serve for a little assistance.

Shonnon Klassen, owner of Dairy King explains how they have recently applied for the True North Small Business Grant Contest and details how they will use the funds if they win.

"We have put alot of time, effort and money into getting the building looking great and done work on the patio but haven't done much with the mini golf. We put new carpets in and did some brick work in the first couple years that we were open but even that needs to be refreshed now."

The contest is put on by Purolator and will be awarding grants of $25,000 to small businesses involved in the community and that would like to do improvements or something that would help build their business within the community.

In regard to how this funding would help out the community as a whole, Klassen says there are some great family activities in town but not a lot and this would be one more thing that families could come out and enjoy together.

The funding is aimed at community growth as Klassen explains.

"One of the things that I think is really important is to build in to your community and that's one of the things that Purolator is really focusing on when you do your nomination. They ask you how we have built relationships within the community, and I think that's really cool. Dairy King has really become a gathering place for the community in the last few years and I love that about it."

The public can help by nominating Dairy King for the grant through the contest link here. Nominations close at midnight on Wednesday June 14th.

Klassen would like to add a huge thank you to everyone that has already nominated them and says the support from the community has been outstanding.
