The Swift Current SPCA is facing a pressing issue of overcapacity, with 13 dogs and a litter of puppies surpassing their 11-kennel limit.

Amy Dixon, the Operations Manager, highlighted the importance of finding loving homes for these animals.

“We are trying our best to make sure that we can move everybody in a timely manner to their safe and forever homes and we’re just super thankful for the people who are able to hold on to the animals we can't quite get to yet.”

She explained that foster care is also an option, particularly for animals requiring special attention or those feeling anxious in the shelter environment.

“We do have our application online, on our website definitely can call the shelter or stop by the shelter and we can have a conversation in person,” she elaborated. “There's a little bit of paperwork to fill out and then when we have an animal that fits into your requirements, we will send somebody home with you.

“We do provide all of their food, bedding, bowls, and anything that they need to live comfortably in the home, so, it's no monetary value out of your pocket. We do cover everything, it's just about making sure that animal is in a home and that we have a safe place for it, so if anybody is willing or interested in fostering, definitely just reach out.”

On the feline side, the Swift Current SPCA is consistently operating at or above capacity. Currently, they have numerous kittens and a few seniors in need of homes.

Dixon added that foster programs play a vital role in caring for bottle-fed kittens and young litters until they are ready for adoption.

Dixon expressed gratitude to the public for their patience and understanding during this challenging period. She assures them that the organization is working diligently to move animals to safe and permanent homes.

Dixon encourages individuals who are unable to adopt to consider fostering, emphasizing the impact it can have in providing temporary care for these animals.

By opening their hearts and homes, the community can make a significant difference in the lives of these animals in need.
