Swift Current's highly anticipated Market Square made a triumphant comeback over the weekend, enchanting visitors with its vibrant atmosphere and diverse offerings, even in the face of sporadic rain showers.

Market Manager Marlene Johnson expressed her delight and shared her insights on the successful event.

"It was a great day, even with a little drizzle," Johnson stated. "It just had happiness in the air. I think everybody was ready to get together and see each other and buy their vegetables and cherries. It was a beautiful day.”

The event featured an impressive lineup of six food vendors, ensuring a wide array of delectable treats for attendees.

As the first Market Square of the season, the event set the tone for future gatherings and was met with much enthusiasm from the community.

"People were excited to come down. It really does set the tone, and you always hope that it's a really good turnout, which it always is," Johnson elaborated.

The event also witnessed a remarkable act of generosity from local business W. W. Smith with a donation of $25,000 to the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation.

Attendees were treated to delightful performances throughout the day, including a special singing showcase by Glenna Switzer and her students.

Reflecting on the event's success, Johnson emphasized the sense of happiness and community it fostered.

“Everybody was smiling, and I think that just shows you that people love to come down, and grab some free popcorn, and buy their vegetables, and visit with people, I think it's a great community event,” she concluded

The first Market Square of the season has set the stage for future gatherings, promising more joyous moments and opportunities to support local vendors.
