Joan Marie Collins

Peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Douglas Campbell Lodge, Joan Collins passed away at the age of 91 years.

Funeral Service will be held at the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Rd. S., Portage la Prairie on Tuesday, June 20 at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home for viewing prior to the service.

Joan was born on March 4, 1932, daughter of Andrew Charles and Pearl Taylor at Lonely Lake, MB, where she was raised and received her education.

Joan moved away from home at age 15, boarded and worked with the owners of a local grocery store. During this time, she met Jack Collins and on May 6, 1952 they married. Together they raised four children; Linda, Debbie, Janice and David.

Over the years as we grew up, mom stayed at home to care for her family. We often reminisce about the homemade bread and cinnamon buns she made as well as Sunday supper, where we often referred to the roasts as “burnt offerings”.

Mom was a faithful member of the local church regardless of where they lived. She was a kind person who loved meeting people. She especially loved children and would go out of her way if she saw anyone with a young baby. Although she had grandchildren of her own, she was known by many as “Grandma Joan”.

Predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Jack, her parents Andrew Charles and Pearl, siblings; Wesley, Opal and an infant brother. Joan is survived by her four children; son David, daughter Linda Green, granddaughter Meaghan (Justin) and great-granddaughters Sarah, Marissa and Serenity, grandson Ryan (Janine) and great-granddaughters Ceanna and Bree, daughter Debbie (Clark) Guinn, granddaughter Jaclyn (Lowell) and great-grandson Donavan, grandson Craig (Tammy) and great-granddaughters Jessica and Britney, daughter Janice (Rick) Webb, granddaughter Leanne and great granddaughter Kenna, granddaughter Kaylie (Matt) and great-grandsons Nixon and Kai. Also surviving are Joan’s siblings; Evelyn, Melvin and Bernice, special friends Evelyn Higgins and Ken Vicars, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to Make a Wish Foundation, 107 – 71 Oxford Common, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 4B7.
