The Fort Sask Falcons football club is planning an interesting event.
The team has cooked up a fascinating way to help raise money for a local charity.
"We are going to run a 24-hour flag football game in support of the Stollery Children's Hospital," said Ryan Nerbas with the Falcons. "We are going to play five versus five flag football and we are looking for teams and sponsors to help run the event."
The game will take place on August 11 and run until August 12 at Taurus Field.
A 24-hour flag football game is bound to be rough on the body. To help make it possible, the Falcons are asking for teams of five people to register for the event who can play at least a one-hour shift before trading off with another team.
"We are going to have at least two teams on the field playing each other at a time," said Nerbas. "The more the merrier, if we can get a lot more teams registered, we will have two or three games going at once on the field."
As mentioned, the funds raised during the game will be sent to the Stollery Children's Hospital, a noble cause for anyone to support but also a personal one for Nerbas.
"My son has been a Stollery Squad Kid his whole life," said Nerbas. "When he was born we found out he had kidney disease so he has definitely spent a lot of time there and even to this day we are still going to the Stollery with appointments and specialists."
"Any way we can help out is great for us."
This will be the first of a few big community events that the Falcons have set up this year. The club will also be hosting their tackle hunger event and second annual toy drive, a date for both of those events is still being decided.
"We are really going to try to outdo ourselves," said Lawrence McMath, the president of the Fort Falcons.
