The Jeans for Teens initiative, an annual fundraising event, is set to launch on Monday, aiming to rally local businesses in support of a charitable cause.

Jeans for Teens has been an established tradition for several years, with past variations benefiting various charities and referred to as ‘Dress in Denim.’

However, recent years have seen a focus on supporting The Centre in Swift Current, explained Megan Muri, the events coordinator with the Swift Current Ag and Ex.

“The last couple of years it's just been for The Centre,” she explained. “Businesses in Swift Current, that usually have a little more formal attire, can allow their employees to dress in denim and Western wear for the week for five dollars an employee, and all that money goes to The Center at the pancake breakfast next week.”

Businesses interested in joining the initiative are urged to register promptly. While the deadline quickly approaches on Monday, interested parties can still reach out to the Swift Current Ag and Ex until then.

"They can get a hold of us as late as Monday," confirmed Muri. "We have an entry form on our website, or they can call our office, and then we'll get them signed up. The more money for The Centre, the better."

The Jeans for Teens initiative, which takes place each year in the lead-up to Frontier Days, generates enthusiasm and prepares the community for the Western-themed festivities.

"It's actually been a part of Frontier Days since the early days when they first started calling it Frontier Days,” Muri noted. “The people in the city were dressed up in pioneer wear, so, it's kind of just to pay homage to that and get the city ready for Western Week with Frontier Days and all the events that happen at Kinetic Park."

As the registration deadline approaches, Muri shared that the response from local businesses has been encouraging.

"I think I have five or six businesses, we have over $500 for sure, but more of them are still coming in,” she elaborated. “Every couple of hours, I get an email or get some more money dropped off, so there is still more coming in.”

All the funds raised from the Jeans for Teens initiative will be presented to The Centre at the W.W. Smith Pancake Breakfast on June 28 in downtown Swift Current.
