The much-anticipated opening of the Herbert Outdoor Pool has brought joy to the community, as families and residents eagerly make their way to the refreshing waters to beat the summer heat.

Despite the challenges faced in previous years, the pool was successfully able to open its doors in a timely fashion this year.

The Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Herbert, Michelle Macko, shared her excitement about the pool's opening.

"The school has been asking us to get it open in June for a number of years, but it's kind of a hard task," Macko explained. "We have a well-used pool, and quite often, we have to do a lot of painting in the basin, and the weather doesn't always cooperate with us, so we can't open by June. But we did it this year, and the school was so happy."

In addition to serving the Herbert school, the pool also welcomed students from Hodgeville school and local homeschoolers in the area.

"It's a great pool, it's very busy in the summertime, and we produce all our own lifeguards as we have swimming lessons every year," Macko added. "We'll do four different weeks of lessons this year. It's your typical small-town pool, but we work hard to keep it going, we don't want to shut it down."

The public can look forward to afternoon and evening swim sessions, typically available seven days a week. However, Macko mentioned that this year's schedule might undergo slight adjustments due to a shortage of lifeguards.
