Eastend residents are eagerly awaiting the long-awaited opening day of the town pool, which is set to kick off this evening.

Olivia Bircham, the pool's staff liaison and a member of the board of directors, provided some insights into the preparations and exciting events planned for the summer season.

“We have an awesome staff, but all of the staff this year are almost exclusively high school students, so we aren't able to kind of kick off our fun summer activities until most of them have completed their high school year,” she explained.

The pool will operate from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. daily, providing ample opportunity for residents to enjoy the summer sun and cool off in the refreshing waters.

Over the winter, the dedicated board members of the pool worked diligently to ensure that everything was in top shape for the upcoming season.

“We had some holes to patch in the basin of the pool, those have been completed early this spring,” she elaborated. “We've done some maintenance on the water slides, as well as investing in some pool-type furniture, toys, medical devices, that kind of thing, to kind of kick off the season as safe and as exciting as we can.”

Swimming lessons will be offered during the weeks of July 17th, July 24th, and August 7th. The lessons on the week of August 7, will be held in the evening, while the other two weeks will have morning sessions.

In addition, Eastend's Dino Days, scheduled for July 22nd and 23rd, will feature special activities at the pool, adding to the excitement of the summer season.

The current pool in Eastend replaced the town’s 45-year-old pool in 2016.

Bircham added that she is extremely grateful to the community for their never-ending support of the pool.

With the increased interest in recent years, the pool has invested extra resources to accommodate the growing demand.

“We're excited about those changes being made this year to create extra capacity for the increased interest we've seen in the most recent years, so, we're just really appreciative of that support and we hope to see it again in the 2023 season,” she concluded.
