Shot of Glory, Country Thunder, and Dock Rock are just a few of the hits that Washboard Union fans are hoping to hear when the Canadian country music group takes to the Grandstand Stage alongside Meghan Patrick at Frontier Days.
The Swift Current event is just one in a long line of stops for the group this summer as band member Aaron Grain details.
"As for this summer touring, it really is incredible when we look at our schedule and realize that we will be touring until October. We are right across this country from the Pacific literally to the Atlantic. St. Johns Newfoundland playing the George Street there as well as down to the states we have some gigs with Country Thunder for Wisconsin and Florida. So we are actually all over this continent this summer."
Grains adds they are looking forward to taking the stage with Patrick who is a long-time friend of theirs.
The group has been busy as seeing much success lately as their recent single "I Run on Country" recently reached over one million streams and the recent release of their new single "Sometimes you don't Need a Plan" Grain also spoke about the group's recent participation in a tribute to Gordon Lightfoot at the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame. He says "It was crazy learning the songs knowing that you are doing this for someone you respect and is one of the great ones."
Reflecting on the group's success. Grain provides some insight into what he believes makes them work.
"When we started to make music together we were a square peg in a round hole when we first came to radio and listeners but for some reason, our Washboard family and fans really appreciated the fact that we were just slightly different than what was out there. I think that was our ticket to ride." He adds that they have a sound that when people hear it it is distinctively Washboard Union and that is their calling card.
In regards to the group's favorite song to play when performing, Grain said that "Shot Of Glory" transcends a lot of the music they do and when they get a crowd singing along to the chorus he says nothing in the world beats that feeling.
Washboard Union fans can expect some more new music as well as the release of a new project before the end of the year. You can catch them and Meghan Patrick live on the Grandstand Stage at Frontier Day's on Saturday, July 1st.
