The much-awaited annual event, Frontier Days 2023, kicks off today, offering an exciting lineup of free events and entertainment.

Tracey Stevenson, manager of the Swift Current Ag & Ex, and Megan Muri, event coordinator for the Swift Current Ag & Ex, shared insights into the numerous attractions awaiting visitors.

“Your seven dollar admission, and children 10 and under free, have multiple things that they can go do with that gated mission,” Stevenson elaborated. “They can go to the Commercial Exhibits Trade Show in the Stockade, they can tour Doc’s Town Heritage Village, and then there's the Frontier Days iCulture Stage located in Hanson Park.”

Doc’s Town Heritage Village is hosting two delicious home-cooked meals, a mouth-watering roast beef meal on June 30, and a delectable pulled pork feast on July 1st.

Meanwhile, the Frontier Days iCulture Stage, located in Hanson Park, will captivate audiences with various performances. Friday at 1:30 p.m., the stage will come alive with dancers from Nekaneet First Nation, followed by the mesmerizing Colombian traditional dance at 5:30 p.m.

On July 1st, the Culture Stage will host the Frontier Days Beard Contest at 1:00 p.m. in addition to Tinikling, a Philippine folk dance at 2:30 p.m., and Bollywood dancing at 4:30 p.m., before Colombian traditional dance takes over the stage once again at 5:30 p.m.

Art enthusiasts will be delighted by the West Wing gallery's captivating displays, showcasing a diverse range of artistic creations by local artists.

Families can also head to the Family Fun Zone, nestled between the Stockade and the Palliser Pavillion where the highly entertaining Frontier City Pig Races will provide cheers and thrills as pint-sized athletes compete for victory.

Meanwhile, the Palliser Pavilion will host the Canadian Raptor Conservancy, allowing visitors to get up close and personal with majestic birds and learn about Canada's incredible avian species.

Moving to the South end of the grounds, Muri revealed what the world of agricultural entertainment has in store.

“There is a Texas Longhorn display in the sand arena across from the Magnus Newland arena,” she explained. “We have other livestock shows running daily with the purebred show starting Thursday, the 4H Heifer show on Friday, and the 4H Steer Show and sale on Saturday.”

The Heavy Horse Show awaits attendees this morning at 10:00 a.m., and visitors shouldn't miss the S3 and Swift Current Building Supplies Heavy Horse Pulls, scheduled for today at 5:00 p.m. and tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.

As the sun sets on July 1, the festivities will reach a climax with a magnificent fireworks show presented by Living Sky Casino, illuminating the night sky at 11:00 p.m.

Stevenson and Muri concluded by reminding residents about the events outside of Kinetic Park.

The W.W. Smith Pancake Breakfast will officially kick things off this morning at Market Square beginning at 7:30 a.m., with the burning of the brand at 8:00 a.m., and at 4:00 p.m. today, the Sasktel Kiddies Day Parade will take over downtown Swift Current.

On Friday, the J&S Tire Flapjack Friday Breakfast will start at 7:00 a.m. at J&S Tire and the Frontier Days Parade will take its regular route on July 1.
