The town of Gravelbourg recently hosted a spectacular Food Festival that left attendees craving more.

Maria Lepage, the president of the Francophone Community and a member of the Food Festival group, shared details of the event.

“We launched the season of the international meals that will be offered in Gravelbourg on the last Sunday of every month, so we kicked it off with Saint Jean Baptiste,” she stated. “Saint John the Baptist was the Patron Saint of the French-Canadian population in Canada.”

Lepage added that with 85 people in attendance, the inaugural event was a massive triumph.

“We had a roaring success,” she stated. “We had a group from Regina, La Raquette à ciacquette, which are five men musicians, most of them with teaching backgrounds or an education background, and they do traditional francophone numbers, they create some new songs, and so we had a real success.”

The festival marked the beginning of a series of monthly international meals that will take place in Gravelbourg.

“We've cancelled our Solstice Festival that we usually had and within the Solstice Festival, we also had an International Food Night, which we used as a kick-off,” Lepage explained. “We decided that since we're not doing the Solstice, we're going to do the International Suppers on the last Sunday of every month, and we will pick people from different cultural communities that live in our community.

“That's where we're heading, I think at the end of July, it's going to be Indian food, so that will be an interesting concept as well.”

As the monthly gatherings continue, residents and visitors can look forward to expanding their palates and embracing the rich flavours from around the world.
