It's Canada Day weekend and with that being said many people are planning on traveling, here is what you need to know to get that bang for your buck.

Gas Buddy's Head of Petroleum Analysis Patrick De Haan says that we have seen a little bit of moderation in gas prices over the last couple of weeks since the price of oil has fallen back below the 70 dollar a barrel mark.

"The central banks continue to raise interest rates which will stifle consumption. So, we have seen modest improvement. The Canadian average is about 2 1/2 cents a liter lower than where it was last week."

De Haan says that this trend may continue throughout the long weekend but not indefinitely.

"The price of oil has been around 67 and 75 dollars a barrel, so there is always a possibility that what goes down, eventually comes back up."

This summer however, De Haan says that we won't be expecting a whole lot of movement.

"We can expect 175 a litre in terms of the Canadian Average and of course some provinces will be a little bit lower than that but all in all the rest of the summer average price will probably be within the 10 to 15 cents a liter from where we stand today."

By the end of the summer De Hann explained that we could eventually go up to 10 to 20 cents a litre should we see any unexpected disruptions like hurricanes or outages.
