The City of Swift Current has added a new face to their hard-working team in the position of Business Development and Tourism Officer.

Denise Wall has taken over the position, which combines the responsibilities of Commercial Business Development, a position previously held by Marty Salberg, and tourism.

With the integration of these two areas, Wall will spearhead efforts to foster economic growth, support local businesses, and promote tourism within the city.

“You'll see me out and about a lot,” Wall stated. “The idea is to get out there and get to know the businesses, get to know how things are for them, and what their issues are. Are they looking to expand, and how can we help them with that, at the City? Also, are they happy with the services of the City and if not, how can we do better?”

Wall officially assumed her position on June 14 and is excited about the potential of her new role.

"Everyone at the City is so welcoming, and it already feels like home," she elaborated.

As a part of her new role, Wall will be shadowing Jim Jones as an unofficial board member on the tourism board and has begun working on economic development certification.

Wall’s goal is to make herself approachable to the residents and business owners of Swift Current while fostering a strong partnership between City Hall and the local business community.

Looking ahead, Wall aims to bring new businesses to Swift Current while supporting growth and retention.

“I am really looking forward to being a part of bringing new business to the city, helping the current businesses grow and retain business here, looking to grow the community population-wise, and try to do things strategically to help that happen, and also grow tourism within the city.”

Her familiarity with the city and its businesses comes from her previous involvement in marketing and community initiatives.

Between her previous experience as an account manager for Golden West, having owned a business in Swift Current and serving on the board of the Lyric Theater, she has gained a deep understanding of local businesses and their needs.

As she settles into her new role, Wall emphasizes her position as a conduit between the city's business community and City Hall.

She encourages open dialogue, promising to listen, address concerns, and collaborate with businesses to find effective solutions.
