Highway 16 was closed for a period of time on June 28 due to a multi-vehicle collision that occurred just west of Plunkett. After completing a preliminary investigation, Saskatoon RCMP confirmed a five-ton truck was travelling west when it collided with a cargo van.

The driver and sole occupant of the five-ton truck was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 40-year-old male from Yorkton, SK. His family has been notified and Victim Services has been engaged.

There were two occupants in the cargo van. The passenger was taken to hospital and has since been released. The driver remains in hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway #16 was blocked during the initial investigation and traffic resumed around 7 p.m. Saskatoon RCMP would like to thank motorists in the area for their cooperation throughout the investigation.

Saskatoon RCMP continues to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.
