Florence Elizabeth Cleaver

Peacefully, Florence Cleaver passed away on June 29, 2023, at the age of 94 at the Lion’s Prairie Manor.

Florence Elizabeth Cleaver was born in MacGregor, Manitoba, March 4th,1929, oldest daughter of James and Edna Smith. She lived on the farm in Hartford School District along with brother Colin, sisters; Muriel, Anne and Norma.

After leaving school, she went to work for Fullers Bakery in Portage and later Krindle’s Dept Store. She enjoyed softball, skating with the Ladies Figure Skating Club, and going to the Portage Terriers hockey games.

On April 10th,1948 she married John (Ted) Cleaver. They lived and farmed in the Poplar Bluff District for 16 years, where they welcomed their three boys; Don, Garry and Allan.

In May 1964 they sold the farm and moved to High Bluff. Florence served on the High Bluff Hall Committee helping with bingos, fowl suppers and curling bonspiels. For several years she was also the caretaker at the High Bluff United Church. She loved her flowers and joined the Poplar Point Horticulture Society. She soon found her passion for bowling, both 5 & 10 pin.

Florence joins Ted, father James, mother Edna, and siblings; Colin, Muriel, Anne and Norma, cherished partner Frank Upward and great granddaughter Leah.

Florence is survived by sons; Don (Tammy) of Kelowna and granddaughters Jennifer and Lindsay; Allan (Angie) of Brandon; and Garry (Jackie) of Portage and grandchildren; Wayne (Cheryl), Brian, and Stacy, and great-grandchildren; Austin, Alyssa, Tara, Ella and DJ, great- great-granddaughter Brielle.

The family would like to acknowledge with sincere thanks to the staff of Lion's Prairie Manor for the care she received for the last 4 years.

In honor of Florence her family will celebrate her life privately.
