This weekend is Family Fishing Weekend in Alberta.
Categories

Everyone in Alberta will be able to fish for free this weekend.

July 8 and 9 is Family Fishing Weekend, where Albertans and visitors are able to fish without needing to purchase a sportfishing license.

The weekend also coincides with National Fishing Week, which occurs each year during the second week of July.

However, before heading out to go fishing, keep in mind that fishing regulations still apply during Family Fishing Weekends. You can read more about fishing regulations by viewing the Alberta Guide to Sportfishing Regulations here.

In addition, free fishing is not available in national parks. For places like Elk Island National Park, fishing isn't permitted at all.

One of the places residents can fish is at one of Alberta's 300 stocked waterbodies full of trout. There are stocked waterbodies in places like Fort Saskatchewan, Gibbons, and Morinville.

You can see a list of all stocked waterbodies in the province by visiting the interactive map here.

There are two Family Fishing Weekends each year. One is held over the Family Day long weekend, and the other is during the weekend following Canada Day.
