Everyone is encouraged to fish Saskatchewan's public waters for free without a license July 8 and 9, though there is one important message from the Ministry of Environment.
"Know your limit, stay within it!"
Saskatchewan anglers are being reminded of some of the rules when it comes to Saskatchewan waters with the fishing season well underway.
The province has daily limits set for the maximum amount and size of fish that can be caught and retained in most waters according to the recent release, and certain bodies of water will also have specific limits for that location or catch-and-release limits that have been established for certain fish species.
"Saskatchewan is renowned by residents and visitors alike for our beautiful waters and world class fishing opportunities," Environment Minister Dana Skoropad said. "By staying within the set limits, anglers directly contribute to the province's efforts to keep our fish populations healthy and abundant for years to come."
Checking the Saskatchewan Anglers Guide is a great way to get other tips before heading out. Different pages feature more information on general limits, catch-and-release limits, and also specific limits on certain bodies of water.
"The limit applies to any fish an angler possesses, including fish that are eaten or given away that day, fish that are at camp, or fish being transported or stored, including those stored elsewhere."
Proper catch and release must be exercised once over the daily limit, even when it is zero, and the Ministry trusts that anglers are doing it in a manner that 'causes the least harm to the fish'.
