The City of Fort Saskatchewan wants to hear from you.

The City has extended its survey for the Urban Forest project from July 15 to July 31 as they look for more feedback from residents.

"The Urban Forest is a collection of trees, shrubs, and associated plants and soils that are found in the city in places like parks, the river valley, along the streets, and even in your own yard," said Brenna Kelly, project coordinator with the city.

"The City is currently working on an Urban Forest protection and enhancement plan to help us better manage that collection of trees."

The survey is available on the City of Fort Saskatchewan website and asks question about what the community thinks of the Urban Forest, what the ideal future of the forest is, and opinions on the city's current management strategies.

"We also want to help the community to learn more about our Urban Forest. We even have a fun mapping tool on our website where people can tell us which parts they love and which parts could use improvement," added Kelly. "The results of the survey and mapping activity will help us to inform our plan, so it's really important we get input from the community to make that happen."

The Urban Forest protection and enhancement plan is in two phases -- the first phase is all about discovery, learning about policies, rules, and guidelines. The second phase involves gathering feedback from the community and engaging the public as they prepare the plan's launch in 2024.

The total cost for the program is around $250,000, with costs supplied by the federal and municipal government.
