The streets of Swift Current were alive with vibrant colours as the annual Pride march took place on Saturday.

Led by Southwest Saskatchewan Pride, the event commenced at noon, departing from Market Square.

Dawn Caswell, a member of Southwest Saskatchewan Pride, expressed her excitement over the overwhelming support and the significance of the event.

"It was fantastic,” she stated. “We had groups from SCIU, we had groups from RBC, we had our regular pride group, and families from pretty much all of southwestern Saskatchewan joining us today.”

For Caswell and many others, the Pride march holds deep personal significance.

"It's about progress, acceptance, awareness, and education," she emphasized. "All of those things are pretty important to the survival of our species. So, to me, this is progress. It's a far cry away from where it was when I was a kid, and I love that we have this experience for the kids and the families that need it now."

The turnout for the march surpassed expectations, potentially making it one of the largest marches ever organized by Southwest Saskatchewan Pride.

The event acted as a kick-off for the final day of Pride Week, which also included a drag makeup workshop and a drag show.

Reflecting on the entire week, Caswell expressed gratitude for the tremendous amount of support received.

"There was zero resistance, which has been fantastic," she concluded.
