Once again, it was a busy weekend on Saskatchewan’s ball diamonds with local teams in the chase for provincial glory. Congratulations to the Humboldt U11 Thunder parents, coaches and volunteers on hosting a successful weekend provincial tournament.
Elsewhere, for the East Central 15U AAA Dodgers, it was a 3 for 4 record with a pair of weekend double headers. Saturday saw the Dodgers in Saskatoon for a back-to-back run with the Astros. The Dodgers took the first game 10-7, thanks in part to three hits by Graydn Wilson accounting for 5 runs in the course of the game. The Dodgers dropped the second game 7-6.
On Sunday it was back home to Muenster for a double header against the Sask 5 Giants where they held off an opposition rally to take a 5-4 win in the opener
Game 2 saw the Dodgers firmly in control with an 11-1 final tally. Jarret Rude led the Dodgers at the plate with a huge triple in the sixth inning. Dayne Schommer pitched the win for the Dodgers, surrendering two hits and no runs over 5 innings.
Next action for the Dodgers is this weekend as they head to Saskatoon for the annual Evan Thomas tournament.
Meanwhile, the East Central 18U AAA Dodgers split their Saturday double-header against the Regina Wolfpack. The Red Sox racked up the runs in the opener at Regina’s Currie field. Cade Armstrong and Carter Dosch both struck in the first, driving in a run each. Marek Yeager manned the hill for the Sox while the defense tightened up the noose, allowing no runs in the 8-0 shutout.
The second game saw the pitchers and the defense shine as the Wolfpack took the second game 2-1 with a woalk off victory. The game was tied at on apiece witht eh bottom of the 2nd when the Pack’s Nathan Houston doubled, scoring the game winner.
A make up game with the Sask 5 Giants goes tonight in Martensville.
