There is no shortage of local talent currently competing at the 2023 Calgary Stampede.
Sherwood Park's Kolby Wanchuk is headlining in the Saddle Bronc event.
His first go around didn't go quite as planned as he was bucked off. Wanchuk made up for it the second time around, taking home a score of 86.5 and is currently fourth in the B pool standings.
That is currently good enough for a $5,500 payday.
Wanchuk currently ranks 19th on the World Rodeo Saddle Bronc standings with over $55,000 in winnings this season.
Local riders are also well represented in the novice Bareback event.
Hayle Lueders from Sherwood Park is currently having the best showing, He took home third place in the fourth and fifth performances with scores of 70 and 66 respectively.
Then came a pair of Sturgeon County riders in Dylan Young and Brady Schlesiger.
Young came 7th in the fourth performance with a score of 61, but then moved up to 5th in the fifth performance with a score of 63.
Lastly, Schlesiger had a shot in the first three performances. He came fourth with a score of 63 in the first performance, dropped to 6th in the second with a 51, and then shot up to third in the last one with a score of 55.
Though there are a few more results yet to come, it has been an impressive showing by some local talent at one of rodeo's biggest stages.
