An Edmonton man has been arrested for allegedly trying to lure children.
On Thursday morning, Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) announced that they had arrested 34-year-old Aarron Kowalchuk.
ALERT says that the arrest was made after they had acquired digital evidence from Kowalchuk's phone. At least two children are believed to have met and been sexually assaulted by Kowalchuk.
Investigators think children as young as nine may have been sexually assaulted.
Kowalchuk is facing the following charges:
- Child luring
- Arrangement of a sexual offence against a child
- Making sexually explicit material available to a child
- Making child pornography
- Possession of child pornography
- Distribution of child pornography
- Possession of a prohibited device
The Alberta Integrated Child Exploitation (I.C.E) unit says a forensic analysis of Kowalchuk's phone and other devices that uncovered child sexual exploitation materials as well as incriminating online chat logs.
At the time of his arrest, Kowalchuk was found carrying a taser-like device.
Kowalchuk will remain in custody and will appear in court on Friday.
