Several popular energy drinks have been recalled in Canada over their caffeine content.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued the recall earlier this week for Prime energy drink, 3D Alphaland energy drink, Celsius dietary supplement, GFuel energy drink, Sting, and 5-hour Energy.

This recall comes as these drinks exceed the acceptable caffeine limit of 180mg per serving, with drinks like 5-hour Energy and Prime having around 200mg per serving.

In comparison, a can of cola has around 30mg of caffeine, and the average cup of coffee has about 95mg.

The recall notice stated that all of the affected drinks are recalled "due to various non-compliances related to caffeine content and labelling requirements."

Health Canada recommends that children under 12 should not have caffeine, while adults shouldn't have anymore than 400mg a day.

High levels of caffeine are shown to have adverse side effects for children and pregnant individuals, including insomia, irritability, and nervousness.

It is unknown if the recalled drinks will return to Canada.
