A man has been taken to hospital after a train collided with a truck in Strathcona County on Thursday night.

Police say that they received reports of the collision just after 7 p.m. in the area of Township Road 514 and Range Road 233.

After arriving on the scene, officers reported that the driver of the white truck involved, a 39-year-old man from Beaumont, had already been taken to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. The man was the only person inside the truck at the time of the incident.

An investigation revealed that the truck was travelling westbound on Township Road 514 when a southbound train smashed into the vehicle's passenger side and pushed the truck off the tracks and into the ditch.

There seemed to be extensive damage to CN property, but an exact dollar value has not been determined.

CN police and personnel were joined by the RCMP on the scene while debris was cleared out. The area has been fully cleared and is now open to all traffic.

An investigation is ongoing and charges are pending against the driver of the truck.
