Smoke causing very poor air quality in region

The region is experiencing one of its worst cases of wildfire smoke of 2023. 

A special air quality statement was sent out on Sunday (July 16) morning warning people to try to limit their time spent outside. 

The Fort Air Partnership is expecting the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) to reach nine at some point today. This is only two levels away from being considered very high risk. 

The following communities have been sent a special air quality statement: 

• Fort Saskatchewan
• Sherwood Park
• Redwater

As always, those with respiratory illness are at the highest risk and should ensure that the air in their residence is well-circulated. Those who are working outside should remain aware of their breathing and take appropriate breaks.
