Four Swift Current businesses have joined forces to host the first-ever Uptown Block Party this afternoon, located in the parking lot at George Street East and South Service Road East.

Hosted by Urban Cellars, Original Joe’s, Shopper’s Drug Mart, and Dairy King, the party will serve as a fundraiser for SaskAbilities’ Walk, Wheel, Run event.

According to Tyler Wallin, the general manager at Original Joe’s, the event will feature an array of activities for the whole family.

“We've got lots of great stuff happening,” he stated. “We’re selling burgers, with all the proceeds going to SaskAbilities. We've got lots of vendors, some live music, Diamond T doing some axe throwing, and lots of stuff for the kids too.”

Jenny Dyck, the community relations coordinator for SaskAbilities, stated that they are extremely grateful to the businesses hosting the party.

“Our walk wheel run event comes up in September, so all the funds raised from the block party are going to go towards that,” she explained. “We've got a big goal this year, it's 83,000 dollars, so we're just so, so grateful that Original Joe’s, Shoppers Drug Mart, Urban Sellers, and Dairy King are putting this on and partially giving us some of those proceeds to go towards that.”

Attendees can also find a 50/50 raffle and a draw for gift baskets at the Uptown Block Party, which will take place from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
