Main Street in Watrous was overtaken by motor enthusiasts of all ages with the return of the Watrous Fun Run. Cars from across the prairies pulled in for the day long display and the traditional run to Manitou Beach.
For some it was a step into the exotic world of international autos with classics like Ivan Johnson from Regina and his Italian Alfa Romeo sportster.
“Originally it came out of Winnipeg where a lady bought it brand new in 1075. We’ve had it for 35 years.”
The top-down stylish look of the cream tinted car was the perfect complement to a summer run.
Then there was Al Cherowka of Medicine Hat with his classic 1958 long lined Impala. The two door hard top was acquired and restored in the States.
“It came from Phoenix and was restored in Washington state. The final restoration was finished in Yuma, AZ. I bought it down there and brought it to Canada and did some final work to it.”
While the gleaming exteriors were a highlight, car fans were just as entrance by the detail work on many interiors. Just such as example was the 1956 Chevy 210 that Saskatoon collector Ryan Zimmerman painstakingly restored. He said the challenges of acquiring the right parts and design elements were helped out by fellow restorers on internet forums.
