A talented teenager from the Southwest has taken the music scene by storm with the release of his first original song titled, ‘The Show.’

Evan Baxter, who grew up in the small town of Beechy after starting his life in Swift Current, has always been surrounded by music.

Baxter began diving deeper into his love of music during the COVID-19 pandemic, finding inspiration from his inner circle.

“My dad had played in a travelling band for years, so music was always around us in the house, that was a big thing for us growing up,” he explained. “During COVID, my older brother Liam started playing guitar and I thought I'd do some music too. I started on the drum kit, and I thought that that was what I wanted to do. After watching Liam play more and more and more, I decided that I wanted to play guitar and I wanted to sing.”

‘The Show’ was born out of this newfound passion for music, noting that the song reflects the experiences and emotions he's gone through over the past year.

The young singer/songwriter described the writing process as both challenging and rewarding.

“I had played it on the guitar for about a week before I showed it to anyone, and I just showed my dad the rough guitar bat and I told him it's just a warmup for my hands,” he elaborated. “He had told me, ‘Well, no, that's something, you need to put something into that.’

“So, I decided to try and start working on lyrics and for about a week I was pretty unsuccessful. The one day I was able to sit down, I was at school, I have an EA, and she gave me the time to sit down and write my music and come up with something, and she gave me the full support that I needed.”

With the encouragement of his family and the guidance of a family friend, Matthew Facca, from Facca Audio in Saskatoon, Baxter embarked on the journey of recording and producing the song.

The songwriting process took about three months, and the recording process spanned over four weeks, focusing on perfecting every detail of the song.

Baxter added that so far, the feedback has been nothing but positive.

“It was very overwhelming,” he stated. “It was very emotional for me because I put so much into that song and to see that it was so well received and to see that people all across the world can hear it. I have worked so hard to get to this point and to finally see that reward is just, oh my goodness, it's amazing.”

Additionally, the teen thanked his dad for acting as his manager throughout the process and helping him get his music on streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music.

The new single resonates with both modern country influences and Baxter’s love for '90s rock music. Merging elements from his favourite artists like Chris Stapleton and Stone Temple Pilots, Baxter's unique sound is already evident in his debut single.

As for the future, Baxter has exciting plans in store as he is currently considering creating a music video for ‘The Show’ and is already working on new material.
