Spending time in nature is one of the best parts of a summer; especially on the water. Those moments help people to recharge and forge lasting connections to our natural world. That’s why The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is inviting people to see how many hours of fun they can have on the water by registering for Paddle for Nature.

Paddle for Nature is a three-day adventure, from August 25 to 27, that asks people to buckle up their life jackets and pledge to spend time on the water in their canoes, kayaks, or on their paddle boards to support nature conservation in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

“Contributing to a better tomorrow doesn’t have to feel like hard work,” says Kayla Balderson Burak, engagement manager for the Nature Conservancy of Canada in Saskatchewan. “This is a great opportunity for people to get out in nature and enjoy themselves while making a difference. We are looking forward to a fun-filled weekend in support of a great cause.”

The goal of the event is to connect with nature and inspire others to do the same. Paddlers can join the challenge by visiting paddlefornature.ca. From there, they can register for the event with a $50 base fee and set their distance and fundraising goals. For youth ages 17 and under, it’s only $25. Participants can register individually or as a team to commit to a personal paddling challenge and raise funds for nature.

All funds raised through Paddle for Nature will go directly to nature conservation projects in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. To date, NCC has conserved over 270,000 hectares of land in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, many of which support the protection and restoration of wetlands and riparian zones and contribute to improved water quality and healthy waterways.

As an added benefit, paddlers qualify for a 10% discount from Paddle for Nature partners The Wilderness Supply until the end of the event. There are also prizes for participants who spend a minimum of one hour on the water, those who use their social media to tag #paddlefornature, and every $200 raised gets participants an entry to the Supporting Nature Draw.
