The road will be closed, but the street will be humming.

On Saturday, September 16, Hopkins Dining Parlour at 65 Athabasca St W in Moose Jaw will celebrate its 44th anniversary with live music, gift certificates and delicious food. And ghosts, maybe?

“I have a lot of stories of strange experiences from my six years working here,” says daytime manager Rachel Brown, referencing the stately, turn-of-the-century house’s famous, permanent residents. “We’ll actually have experienced tour guides here on Saturday who can take you around the whole house and show you everything. With a bit of luck, you never know – a few of our friendly spirits might show up to join the party!”

Although, the late-summer revellers might be too busy enjoying themselves to notice. Beginning at 5:00 pm, Hopkins will host an outdoor concert featuring Bonnie and the Jets, and diners are welcome to dance along to music harkening back to the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Gift Certificates will even be presented to those sporting the best, most authentic 70s attire.

“You’re going to have to really get dressed up, because we servers really know how to wear 70s outfits,” says Brown. “So, we challenge you! Dress your best 70s! Get out your best flares and white collar shirts.”

Naturally, the centrepiece of the evening will be tasty Hopkins bites. The establishment’s well-known wings and potato skins will feature on the menu, as well as a choice of entrees including prime rib, lobster tail and baby back pork ribs. The bar and cellar, meanwhile, will feature a wide variety of wine, cocktails, beer and spirits, albeit the drinkable kind.

“The street will be closed, the band will be playing and the service will be boogy-ing,” says Brown. “So come down and join us!”

The former owner Gladys Pierce will be in attendance for the 44th celebration.
